Colin Farrell pushed his friend Emma Fogarty, who has a rare skin condition, in her wheelchair for the final 4 kilometers of the Dublin Marathon to raise funds for DEBRA, an Irish charity supporting those with epidermolysis bullosa (EB). Fogarty, who is Ireland’s oldest surviving person with the condition, was born with no skin on her left foot and right arm, leading to painful blisters from any touch. Those with EB lack essential skin-binding proteins, making the skin susceptible to breaking and blistering from friction or movement. Despite the severe form of EB she has, Fogarty reached age 40, surpassing the typical life expectancy of individuals with her type of EB. Farrell and Fogarty aimed to raise €400,000 but now aim to reach a million euros, with their fundraising efforts well underway. Farrell pushed Fogarty for 4 kilometers, one for each decade of her life, as they completed the marathon together in just over 4 hours. The pair appeared on Ireland’s “The Late Late Show” prior to the race, with Fogarty expressing her trust in Farrell to push her the final stretch. Their journey has garnered attention and support, highlighting the importance of raising awareness and funds for those living with EB.
