Aggies Fall to FIU After Second-Half Offensive Surge

New Mexico State suffered a 34-13 defeat at the hands of FIU on Tuesday night, despite a strong first half performance. The Aggies, now 2-6 on the season, managed 246 total yards of offense, with 216 coming from their rushing attack. FIU, on the other hand, put up 438 total yards, led by Eric Rivers’ 295 receiving yards.

Abraham Montaño kicked two long field goals, including a 57-yarder that tied a program record. Mike Washington led the Aggies on the ground with 88 rushing yards. Despite some promising drives, including a touchdown from Washington in the fourth quarter, NM State was unable to keep up with FIU’s offense in the second half.

The loss drops NM State to 0-4 in road games this season, with their last win away from home coming in 2023. Montaño’s impressive season continued with his record-tying field goals, while Washington set a season-high for rushing yards. The Aggies also displayed a strong performance on special teams, limiting penalties and recording a season-high in punts inside the FIU 20-yard line.

Looking ahead, NM State will face Western Kentucky at home on November 9th. Fans can expect a competitive matchup as the Aggies aim to bounce back from their midweek loss.
