Child, aged 8, injured by gunshot inside residence in New Mexico


An 8-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot in the head area by her 17-year-old brother in Clayton, New Mexico. The incident occurred on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at around 7:30 a.m. The teenager pointed a handgun at his sister and pulled the trigger, resulting in her hospitalization and subsequent airlift to a hospital in Texas. The firearm, which did not belong to anyone in the home, was disassembled by the teenager and placed in a dumpster, but was later recovered by authorities.

The 17-year-old is facing charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, negligent use of a deadly weapon, and tampering with evidence. He has been arrested and booked into the San Juan County Juvenile Detention Center as the investigation into the home shooting continues. New Mexico State Police are leading the investigation into this tragic incident.
