An 8-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot in the head area by her 17-year-old brother in Clayton, New Mexico. The incident occurred on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at around 7:30 a.m. The teenager pointed a handgun at his sister and pulled the trigger, resulting in her hospitalization and subsequent airlift to a hospital in Texas. The firearm, which did not belong to anyone in the home, was disassembled by the teenager and placed in a dumpster, but was later recovered by authorities.
The 17-year-old is facing charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, negligent use of a deadly weapon, and tampering with evidence. He has been arrested and booked into the San Juan County Juvenile Detention Center as the investigation into the home shooting continues.
