Exploring the FL Keys: Four Enjoyable and Secure Bike Routes | Lifestyle

Dedicated cyclists and tourists can now explore the 106-mile Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail, which offers a scenic journey through the Florida Keys. Bonnie Gross of Florida Rambler has shared her favorite four sections of the trail for DIY Keys bike tours.

The first section is in Islamorada, spanning from MM 90 to 80 along the Old Road. This part of the trail provides a glimpse into the lives of Key residents and passes by notable attractions such as Bud N Mary’s marina and the hurricane memorial. Gross recommends stopping at Midway Café and Coffee Bar for a bite to eat.

The Long Key section, from MM 71 to 62, offers 18 miles of beautiful views of the water and sky, including the historic Long Key Bridge. This section runs through Long Key state park and features charming cottages and mobile homes.

The Lower Keys to Key West section, from MM 15 to Key West, is Gross’s favorite part of the trail. Stretching 10 miles, the trail offers marvelous views of the ocean and a separate lane from the Overseas Highway. Recommended pit stops include the Geiger Key Marina.

Lastly, the Old Seven Mile Bridge to Sombrero Beach section is a 14-mile round-trip ride, including a ride on the refurbished section of the Old Seven Mile Bridge. Cyclists can then detour to Sombrero Beach for a relaxing break.

For a detailed guide on these four sections, cyclists can refer to Bonnie Gross’s full guide on the Florida Rambler website. Biking the Florida Keys has never been easier or more rewarding.
