New Mexico names Jason Eck, former Idaho football coach, as new head coach following departure of Bronco Mendenhall

New Mexico has appointed Idaho football coach Jason Eck as their new head coach, following the departure of Bronco Mendenhall. Eck, who led the Vandals to three consecutive playoff appearances, expressed his excitement at the opportunity to lead the Lobos. New Mexico’s athletic director, Fernando Lovo, praised Eck for his success at Idaho and his ability to build a strong program.

Eck, a former Wisconsin offensive lineman, had previously served as an assistant at South Dakota State before taking over at Idaho. With a record of 26-13 in three seasons at Idaho, Eck’s coaching style and leadership were seen as valuable assets by the New Mexico administration.

Mendenhall left New Mexico for Mountain West competitor Utah State after a single season with the Lobos. Despite a 5-7 overall record, New Mexico decided to part ways with Mendenhall and bring in Eck for a fresh start.

Eck’s appointment has generated excitement among the New Mexico university community, alumni, and fans, who are eager for success on the football field. With his track record of success at Idaho, Eck is expected to bring a new level of energy and competitiveness to the Lobos’ program.
