A teenager, Abdul Aziz Khan, who was allegedly abducted by his mother, Rabia Khalid, seven years ago in Atlanta, was found alive in Colorado after Khalid was spotted breaking into a vacant house. Authorities had been searching for Abdul for five years across 11 states before locating him in a car outside the Highlands Ranch home. Khalid and another individual, Elliot Bourgeois, were arrested after being discovered on the property. Khalid faced charges of conspiracy to kidnap and Bourgeois faced multiple felony charges, including kidnapping. Both were held on a $1 million bond.
The circumstances surrounding Abdul’s abduction stemmed from a custody dispute that began with criminal allegations against his father. The allegations against the father were dropped, but Abdul was taken when it seemed his father would gain custody. It is unclear if Abdul is aware of being kidnapped, as he appeared to have been coached on what to say to law enforcement when approached by deputies.
Abdul and another child in the vehicle were found to be in good health and taken into protective custody. The reunification process with his family is ongoing. The family released a statement expressing overwhelming gratitude for the support received over the years and their joy at Abdul being found after such a long period of separation.
