Enhanced drone technology may improve safety measures in schools

A new drone technology that could potentially help make schools safer was recently unveiled in Austin by Campus Guardian Angel. The company has developed drones that they claim could stop an active shooter and save lives in the crucial first minutes of an attack. The drones are equipped with various capabilities such as cutting through windows, deploying flash bangs or pepper launchers, and injuries. The drones would be placed on individual campuses but operated from a central hub in Austin and would be used in conjunction with digital mapping of the schools.

The co-founders of Campus Guardian Angel, Justin Marston and Bill King, both emphasize the importance of using drones as part of the first response to an active shooter situation, especially in situations where taking lethal action is not feasible. The goal of the technology is to respond within five seconds, be on the shooter within 15 seconds, and degrade or incapacitate them within 60 seconds. Boerne ISD, a district in Kendall County, has already partnered with Campus Guardian Angel, recognizing the potential benefits of the technology in improving response times and enhancing overall school safety.

The company believes that their technology could have made a difference in past school shooting incidents such as the one in Uvalde in 2022. With the support of local districts like Boerne ISD, Campus Guardian Angel is hopeful that their drone technology can provide an extra layer of security and peace of mind for students and staff. This innovative approach to school safety could potentially change the way schools respond to active shooter situations in the future.
