The Food and Drug Administration issued a recall of thousands of pounds of ground coffee that were mislabeled as decaffeinated in 15 states in the U.S. The mislabeled product, Our Family Traverse City Cherry Decaf Light Roast Ground Coffee, was sold in various states, including Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. The recall was issued by Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA, one of the largest coffee suppliers in the U.S., on March 13. The FDA classified the recall as a “category II,” meaning that the use of the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. Our Family, the company behind the mislabeled product, stated that none of their other products were affected by the recall and apologized for any inconvenience caused. Both Massimo Zanetti and SpartanNash, the coffee’s distributor, did not respond to requests for comment. The companies emphasized their commitment to health and safety and noted that they follow best practices to ensure product quality and safety.
