xMEMS Introduces Innovative Amplifier-Free Micro-Driver Technology

xMEMS Labs has introduced a groundbreaking innovation with the launch of xMEMS Lassen, a new micro-speaker designed to deliver high-fidelity audio to mass-market consumer earbuds. This new technology eliminates the need for a separate piezo amplifier, reducing costs, component area, and power consumption. The compact size of the Lassen micro-speaker, measuring just 3.2 x 5 x 1.15 mm, coupled with its low power consumption, makes it an ideal solution for 2-way TWS wireless earbud audio.

Previously, xMEMS’ Cowell and Muir MEMS speaker solutions required a separate amplifier chip. However, with the introduction of Lassen, no amplifier is needed, freeing up space in earbuds for additional features while delivering superior sound quality and soundstage. The semiconductor-level quality and scalability of Lassen ensure consistent and repeatable sound quality across TWS earbud designs.

By eliminating the amplifier requirement, xMEMS has reduced the cost of tweeter integration by 25 percent, making MEMS speaker technology comparable to other micro tweeter solutions. The xMEMS Lassen TWS Tweeter is now available for sampling, with mass production set for September 2025. This technology is positioned to meet the growing demand for high-res and spatial audio quality.
