In a closely contested game, NM State softball fell to UTEP with a score of 7-4 at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex. Despite a strong effort to come back after falling behind 5-0 in the first inning, NM State’s offense was not enough to overcome UTEP’s lead. The loss brings NM State’s conference record to 8-6, while UTEP improves to 4-10.
The game saw a strong performance from Payton Nicholson, who recorded a leadoff single in the third inning, and home runs by Devin Elam and Kristiana Watson that brought NM State within two runs. However, UTEP’s offense proved to be too much for the Aggies to overcome.
NM State is now in fourth place in the CUSA standings with a record of 8-6. They have allowed 15 runs over their past two games, after allowing just seven runs in their previous five outings. The team looks to avoid a sweep in the final game of the series against UTEP, with Sunday’s first pitch scheduled for Noon MT.
