Sam Bregman set to declare candidacy for governor in Las Vegas | Political Announcement

Sam Bregman, current District Attorney of the 2nd Judicial District, has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nominee for Governor of New Mexico. Bregman will officially declare his candidacy today at Plaza Park in Las Vegas at 4 p.m., surrounded by supporters. According to his campaign, he will take the stage around 4:45 p.m. Bregman aims to protect New Mexico from what he describes as attacks by Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and Republicans in Washington on public schools, healthcare, veterans, and workers. He plans to address issues impacting everyday New Mexicans and protect the state’s freedoms and values.

With more than 30 years of experience as a litigator, Bregman started his political career as an Albuquerque City Councilor and later served as the chair of the New Mexico Democratic Party. He was appointed as Bernalillo County District Attorney by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in January 2023 and won re-election in 2024. Bregman’s campaign focuses on taking on chaos in Washington and protecting the people of New Mexico.

Bregman joins former U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland in the race to become the 2026 Democratic nominee for governor. The announcement of his candidacy is expected to draw attention and support from those who believe he can effectively address the challenges facing the state.
