Renewable energy expert Rachid Darbali spoke with young people at the 2nd annual Earth Day Festival at Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque about reducing pollution and slowing the rate of climate change. Darbali shared his knowledge of renewable energy sources, drawing from his experience growing up in Puerto Rico and witnessing the impact of Hurricane Maria. He emphasized the importance of outreach and motivating others to make a positive impact on the environment. The festival featured PNM’s ride and drive event, allowing attendees to test drive electric vehicles, as well as a children’s activity center and youth art contest. Darbali, who works at Sandia National Laboratories, highlighted the interest and knowledge that young people have in environmental technologies, such as solar panels and wind turbines. The event aimed to educate and inspire attendees of all ages to take action towards a more sustainable future.
