Richard Pitino wasted no time in making moves for his inaugural roster as the new head coach of Xavier’s basketball team. Just hours after his formal introduction, former New Mexico forward Filip Borovicanin committed to the Musketeers. Standing at 6-foot-9, Borovicanin started 29 of 35 games last season, averaging 5.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He had an impressive showing in the NCAA Tournament with a combined 12 points and 12 rebounds in two games.
Originally a four-star prospect signed to Arizona, Borovicanin decided to transfer to Xavier and join the roster which also includes forward Lassina Traore and guard Roddie Anderson. Borovicanin had notable performances during the regular season, including a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Wyoming.
The addition of Borovicanin adds a new dynamic to Xavier’s lineup under Pitino’s leadership. Pitino, the son of legendary coach Rick Pitino, was encouraged by his father to take on the role at Xavier. The team’s new head coach emphasizes the importance of building a winning program for the community. The commitment of Borovicanin is seen as a positive step towards achieving that goal.
