Charles County marked a significant milestone in its economic development with the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) awarding $200,000 to support the final phase of the Maryland Technology Center in Indian Head. The check presentation included DHCD Secretary Jake Day, Sen. Arthur Ellis, Charles County commissioners, and Town of Indian Head Mayor Brandon Paulin.
The funding supports the completion of the center, which is already creating job opportunities and attracting high-tech industry to Southern Maryland. The award is part of the state’s $129.5 million fiscal year 2025 State Revitalization Program investments and is part of DHCD’s “Great Places Win” event series.
The 30,000-square-foot facility, formerly a grocery store and CVS, now serves as the national headquarters for the United States Bomb Technician Association (USBTA). It includes lab space for research, development, testing, and evaluation, as well as housing private contractors and businesses.
The project has received support from DHCD, which has also invested in other projects in Charles County. The Maryland Technology Center has brought nine new industry partners and dozens of jobs to the area.
The FY2025 Community Legacy Program has awarded $8.2 million for 45 revitalization projects across Maryland. For more information about DHCD’s State Revitalization Programs, visit dhcd.maryland.gov. The Maryland Technology Center is seen as a driving force for economic rejuvenation in Indian Head and Southern Maryland.
