Howell, Michigan may not have claimed the title of the Best Main Street in America this year, but it has still made it to the Top 10. In the USA Today 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Main Street, Howell ranked fourth, with Bethlehem, Pennsylvania taking the top spot.
Despite not winning this year, Howell has a lot to offer with its walkable shopping and dining district, housed in historic brick buildings. The city is known for its unique local businesses and landmarks like the historic courthouse and Historic Howell Theater.
Annual events such as Melon Fest, Balloon Fest, and the Fantasy of Lights Parade draw in thousands of visitors each year, along with regular community gatherings like the farmers’ market. In recent years, the city has made improvements like creating the award-winning playground Howell Summit Gardens and adding colorful murals throughout downtown as part of the Howell Art Project.
Even alleys like Peanut Alley have been revitalized, with businesses there marketing themselves as The Alley District. While it may not have claimed the top spot this year, Howell continues to be a vibrant and exciting destination for visitors.
