Update on Tallahassee campus: 2 dead, TK injured

A gunman identified as Phoenix Ikner, a 20-year-old possible FSU student and the son of a sheriff’s deputy, opened fire at Florida State University, killing two people and injuring six others. The shooting took place near the student union at 11:50 a.m., with Ikner shooting multiple people before being apprehended by police. The victims’ identities have not been released, but authorities have confirmed that they were not FSU students.

Ikner was described as a “normal college dude” by a witness, but a former classmate mentioned his white supremacist views and expulsion from a political discussion group due to his beliefs. Officials found a gun belonging to Ikner’s mother at the scene, a former service weapon that she had purchased and owned. The police also mentioned that Ikner had a shotgun with him, but they could not confirm if it was used during the shooting.

Despite interviews from classmates and witnesses, police have not yet identified a motive for the shooting. The incident has left the FSU community in shock and mourning as they try to make sense of the tragedy. Authorities are continuing to investigate the shooting to understand why Ikner, a seemingly typical college student, would commit such a horrific act of violence.
