Bosque Farms resident reflects on events preceding Rio Grande Fire

A destructive fire in Bosque Farms, New Mexico has left behind about 60 acres of damage, fueled by high winds and dry conditions. The fire, now being called the Rio Grande Fire, spread quickly on Thursday, with at least three homes being destroyed. One homeowner, Carla DeVaney, described feeling fear and terror as the flames approached her home. Despite being alone, she took action to try and save her property by using water tanker trucks from her construction company.

Firefighters are still working to contain hot spots to prevent further spread, with the fire currently 10% contained. While some of DeVaney’s chickens did not survive the fire, her home escaped major damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but residents in Bosque Farms have come together to support one another in the aftermath. With more wind expected, DeVaney and other locals have pledged to stay vigilant and continue to protect their homes.
