New Mexico History Museum Hosts New Exhibit on Chimayo

The New Mexico History Museum in Santa Fe is hosting an exhibit titled “Chimayo: A Tradition of Faith,” which captures the spirit of a pilgrimage to a small adobe chapel. The exhibit features black-and-white photographs taken in 1996 by four individuals who went on the pilgrimage. Visitors have the opportunity to leave their own reflections, prayers, and offerings at the exhibit, mirroring the tradition at the Santuario in Chimayo. The exhibit also includes a recreation of the ex-voto rooms in the chapel, where pilgrims can take “holy earth” and leave offerings. Some offerings left at the chapel are believed to have resulted in healings. The Women’s Board of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation hosted the opening of the exhibit, providing a unique perspective on this spiritual journey. Located at 113 Lincoln Ave in Santa Fe, the exhibit offers a glimpse into the traditions and faith of the Chimayo pilgrimage for those who cannot make the journey themselves.
