Transfer Portal will welcome QB Devon Dampier from New Mexico

New Mexico quarterback Devon Dampier, a sophomore with two years of eligibility remaining, has announced his decision to enter the transfer portal. Dampier, a true dual-threat quarterback, had an impressive first year as UNM’s starter, accounting for 3,934 yards of offense, 31 touchdowns, and setting multiple program records. He threw for 2,768 yards this season, the fifth-most in program history, while also rushing for 1,166 yards and 19 scores. Dampier expressed gratitude for his coaches, teammates, and the support of Lobo nation in a post on social media.

Dampier’s decision to enter the transfer portal comes after much consideration and conversations with his family. He is excited for the next two years of his journey and thanked everyone for the love and support he has received during his time in Albuquerque. Dampier, a Phoenix native, enrolled at UNM in January 2023 and made an impact as a true freshman, passing for 525 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions.

In addition to Dampier, wide receiver Luke Wysong, who led the Lobos with 69 receptions and 840 yards this season, also plans to enter the transfer portal next Monday. It seems to be a period of change for the UNM football program as key players explore new opportunities.
