NM State Softball Prepares for Senior Day Showdown Against Middle Tennessee
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – This weekend marks a pivotal moment for NM State Softball as they host Middle Tennessee in a crucial three-game series at the NM State Softball Complex, starting April 25. The Aggies (22-24, 9-12 CUSA) aim to climb back into the top six of the Conference USA standings, currently trailing the Blue Raiders (23-24, 10-11 CUSA) by a game. The series is particularly special as NM State honors five graduating seniors—Taylor Nicholson, Kristiana Watson, Jaileen Mancha, Kayla Lunar, and Riley Carley—during the Senior Day ceremony on Saturday.
Having faced a challenging stretch, NM State enters the series on a tough note, having lost ten of their last eleven games. Their last outing saw them fall to No. 13 Arizona, where they were outscored 13-0 in game two of a doubleheader. This slump leaves the team needing a strong performance in the final weeks of the regular season to secure a place in the CUSA Championship.
The Aggies’ standout player, Desirae Spearman, recently recognized as one of the nation’s top two-way players, continues to shine both offensively and as a pitcher. Spearman leads the team in key statistical categories while her remarkable versatility enhances NM State’s chances.
On the sidelines, the return of Associate Head Coach Cat Heifner, who recently overcame cancer, boosts team morale as she rejoins the Aggies for the home stand.
Fans can catch the action live on ESPN+, and stats will be available at nmstatestats.com. For updated information and coverage, follow NM State Softball on social media platforms.
As the Aggies face Middle Tennessee, every play counts as they strive for postseason redemption.
