N.M. Prospects Poised for Late Rounds in NFL Draft
April 23—As the NFL Draft approaches, New Mexico supporters may find the first two rounds uneventful, but Saturday holds promise for local talent. Despite this year’s unpredictability, two notable prospects from the Land of Enchantment are expected to hear their names called later in the draft, while another may secure an undrafted free agent spot.
Bryce Cabeldue, OL (Kansas)
Positional ranking: 12/140
Projected draft slot: Fourth round
Cabeldue, hailing from Clovis, has drawn attention as a potential transition from tackle to guard. After a solid college career at Kansas, he impressed at the East-West Shrine Bowl with a 4.95-second 40-yard dash. “Cabeldue is quick as a pass blocker,” said Dane Brugler of The Athletic, highlighting his skills in both the passing and run game.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt, RB (Arizona)
Positional ranking: 24/216
Projected draft slot: Fifth round
Initially a standout at New Mexico, Croskey-Merritt transferred to Arizona but faced challenges due to eligibility issues. Nevertheless, his performance at the Shrine Bowl, where he rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns, has kept him in draft conversations. Brugler noted his unique running style, which keeps defenders on their toes.
Andrew Henry, RB (New Mexico)
Positional ranking: 53/216
Projected status: Undrafted free agent
Henry, despite an injury-plagued last season, showcased his potential at the Shrine Bowl with 68 rushing yards and has attracted interest from several NFL teams, including the Dallas Cowboys. “There’s a high possibility they call my name,” he remarked, optimistic about his future.
While the initial rounds may be quiet for New Mexico fans, Saturday’s developments could mark a turning point for local prospects.
