Aggies Gear Up for Key Track Meets Ahead of Championships
Las Cruces, N.M. – The New Mexico State Aggies are set to compete in two significant track and field meets this weekend: the Don Kirby Twilight in Albuquerque on April 25 and the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge on April 26. This is an important weekend for the Crimson & White as they prepare for the upcoming Conference USA (CUSA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning May 16 at Middle Tennessee’s Dean A. Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium.
Fans can stay up to date with the competitions via live results available at nmstatesports.com. The Aggies will face tough competition from programs including Northwestern, Louisiana, Memphis, Utah, and Florida State, participating in 16 events ranging from sprints to field events.
The team boasts several athletes ranked among the best in Conference USA this season. Notable performances include Rachel O’Brien’s impressive standings in the 1500m (1st) and 800m (3rd), and Alesha Lane’s consistency in shot put and discus, both ranked 3rd. Additionally, Andrew Gibby recorded the fastest 3000m time in CUSA this season, showcasing the depth and talent within the Aggie roster.
Sophomore Marlee Cavitt, who also plays soccer for the Aggies, continues to make strides in track with personal bests in the 60m and 200m. Following her record-setting 1500m performance at the Bryan Clay Invitational, O’Brien has solidified her status as a leading contender.
