WNMU Women’s Golf Team Improves at Lone Star Conference Championship

The Western New Mexico University (WNMU) women’s golf team showcased resilience during the first two rounds of the Lone Star Conference Championship, finishing the day in 11th place with a combined score of 628 (+60) at the Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club.
The Mustangs opened with a score of 326 (+34) in the morning, but demonstrated significant improvement in the afternoon with a 318 (+26). Leading the charge was Corynn Speer, who fired rounds of 77 (+5) and 78 (+6), ending the day at +11 and scoring six birdies overall. Notably, Speer demonstrated her skill on the par-3 5th, 12th, and par-5 18th, continuing her strong play throughout the rounds.
Shandiin Harper made a strong impact as well, slashing five strokes from her morning score of 81 (+9) to post a team-best 76 (+4) in round two. She registered birdies on the par-4 17th in the morning and the par-5 18th in the afternoon, aiding the team’s ascent in the standings.
Alexandria Klemke maintained consistency, carding identical scores of 79 (+7) in both rounds and finishing with a +14 total. Her performance included birdies on the par-5 18th and again on the par-5 6th.
In addition, Falyn Lackey improved from an 86 (+14) to an 81 (+9), while Erin Turner rounded out the lineup with scores of 85 (+13) and 89 (+17).
The Mustangs return for the final round on Tuesday morning, with tee times scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. CT.
