Press Release: Weather Update for Eastern New Mexico

Eastern New Mexico to Experience Showers and Storms This Weekend

Albuquerque, NM – Rain and thunderstorms are expected to move into eastern New Mexico starting tonight and continuing through Saturday night. Following a period of severe weather Friday afternoon, conditions are shifting as localized rain and storms develop. While Saturday afternoon may bring a lull in precipitation, isolated showers and storms could still occur later in the day.

Simultaneously, the western half of the state will face increased winds, heightening the fire danger significantly. Gusts are projected to reach between 35 to 60 mph by Sunday afternoon, prompting concerns about dry air and blowing dust, particularly in southwestern regions.

As the winds begin to abate early next week, temperatures are forecasted to return to seasonal averages. Starting Wednesday, rain and thunderstorms will be back in the forecast, with heightened chances for various areas across New Mexico on Thursday and Friday.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant of changing weather conditions and prepare for potential fire hazards.
