Crews Contain Wildfire Near Grants, New Mexico
GRANTS, N.M. — A wildfire that erupted near Grants on Sunday night has been successfully contained after burning 3-5 acres and damaging several structures. Prominent winds drove the fire into a residential area, resulting in the destruction of six homes and eight outbuildings. The Grants fire chief indicated that the fire is believed to be human-caused.
As of Monday morning, residents living on the north side of East Sage Avenue are permitted to return to their properties, although vehicle access remains restricted for ongoing investigations by emergency crews. Conversely, residents on the south side of East Sage Avenue are still barred from returning to their homes.
In response to the emergency, a shelter has been set up at The Way of Truth and Life located at 700 Sakelares Boulevard to assist those affected by the fire. Authorities are continuing their assessments and ensuring safety measures in the area as they address the aftermath of the incident. The situation remains under close scrutiny as the investigation proceeds.
