NM State Softball Closes Senior Weekend with a 9-1 Victory Over Middle Tennessee
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State Softball team capped off an exciting Senior Weekend with a commanding 9-1 win against Middle Tennessee on Saturday, securing a series sweep. Sophomore pitcher Desirae Spearman delivered a stellar performance, throwing a complete game with only two hits allowed and striking out nine batters.
The victory propelled the Aggies to a tied fifth place in the Conference USA standings with a record of 12-12, buoyed by a successful sweep over Sam Houston earlier this season. Spearman shone both on the mound and at bat, hitting her conference-leading 18th home run of the season while contributing to the team’s offensive onslaught.
In a game marked by explosive performances, Tamara Carranza notched a walk-off three-run homer in the fifth inning, sealing the win and marking her fourth home run of the season. This pivotal hit followed strong contributions from senior Riley Carley, who also homered earlier in the game.
Coach Kathy Rodolph praised the team’s collective effort, emphasizing their improved hitting confidence and solid pitching. “If we just play our way, we can go into the tournament as the hottest team in the conference,” she stated.
Looking ahead, NM State will travel to Georgia for a crucial series against Kennesaw State. With high stakes in the final stretch of the season, the Aggies aim to maintain their momentum as they pursue a spot in the upcoming CUSA Championship.
