Aggies Dominate Middle Tennessee with 10-0 Victory
Las Cruces, N.M. – New Mexico State baseball made a powerful statement Saturday afternoon, shutting out Middle Tennessee 10-0 at Presley Askew Field to secure the weekend series. With this win, the Aggies improved their season record to 21-22 and 9-8 in Conference USA, while the Blue Raiders fell to 19-24 and 4-13 in the same conference.
The match began with a scoreless first inning, but the Aggies quickly took charge in the bottom of the second. After back-to-back singles from Boston Vest and Gianni Horvat, Dane Woodcook executed a sacrifice bunt to bring Vest home, putting NM State ahead 1-0.
The Aggies broke the game open in the fourth inning. Following an error by Middle Tennessee, Vest and Horvat added more hits, and after another sacrifice bunt by Woodcook, Joey Craig hit a three-run homer, extending the lead to 5-0. The Aggies continued to dominate, with runs from Steve Solorzano and Mitch Namie, pushing the score to 7-0.
In the seventh inning, the Aggies sparked another rally, culminating in three additional runs and an early end to the game due to a run-rule.
On the mound, Connor Wylde delivered a stellar performance, tossing a complete game with five hits allowed and five strikeouts, marking the team’s first shutout since March 2022.
Brandon Forrester led the offense with a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, while Horvat contributed three hits and scored twice. Woodcook drove in three runs, showcasing the Aggies’ depth and offensive prowess.
