NM State Aggies Triumph Over Middle Tennessee in Series Opener

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State Aggies clinched a 6-1 victory against Middle Tennessee on Friday night at Presley Askew Field, showcasing a combination of sharp batting and effective pitching.

The Aggies, now 20-22 overall and 8-8 in Conference USA play, struck early, scoring three unearned runs in the first inning. Bryce Campbell ignited the offense with an RBI double to right field, followed by RBIs from Gianni Horvat and Dane Woodcook, establishing a 3-0 lead before Middle Tennessee could secure an out.

Adding to their lead in the second inning, Austin Corbett’s single set up a run scored by Brandon Forrester, who had a standout game with a 2-for-3 performance, including two walks and two stolen bases.

Middle Tennessee’s Hayden Miller attempted a comeback with a solo home run in the third, but Aggie starter Saul Soto silenced the Blue Raiders’ bats. Soto completed seven impressive innings, allowing a single run while striking out five hitters, earning his fourth win of the season.

The Aggies tacked on insurance runs with a sixth-inning RBI single from Steve Solorzano and a solo home run by Horvat, marking his first of the season. Freshmen relievers Hazen Wright and Dylan Weekly contributed two scoreless innings, sealing the victory for NM State.
