A man is in critical condition after falling approximately 20 feet from the stands during a Pittsburgh Pirates game at PNC Park. The incident occurred during the seventh inning, as the man tumbled through the air and landed on the warning track in right field. The fall shocked players and temporarily halted the game. He was quickly taken to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment.
Emergency services, along with the Pirates and Cubs athletic training teams and PNC Park personnel, responded promptly. Witness Sam Miller described the incident as happening rapidly, stating he couldn’t determine whether the man jumped or fell from the 21-foot wall. EMTs immobilized him with a stretcher for transport.
Star player Andrew McCutchen was on the field during the incident, and many fans reported a somber silence enveloping the stadium as medical responders attended to the victim. The Pirates released a statement expressing their thoughts and prayers for the man and his family.
The situation has since drawn the attention of the Pittsburgh Police Violent Crime Unit, which is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the fall.
