Home Run Hat Trick Leads Aggies to Victory Over Owls

NM State Softball Dominates Kennesaw State, 6-2

KENNESAW, GA. – The NM State Softball team secured its fourth consecutive victory on Friday, overpowering Kennesaw State with a 6-2 score. The Aggies showcased a potent offensive display, highlighted by three home runs in three consecutive innings.

The win elevated NM State’s record to 26-24 overall and 13-12 in Conference USA play, while Kennesaw State fell to 11-40, including a disappointing 2-23 in league games.

Despite a slow start, Kennesaw State initially took the lead in the first inning, capitalizing on walks and hits to score. However, Aggie pitcher Desirae Spearman responded strongly in her second at-bat, hitting her 19th home run of the season to equalize in the third inning. The momentum shifted further in the fourth as Kendal Lunar and Lauren Garcia followed suit with back-to-back home runs, giving NM State a commanding 4-1 lead.

Defensively, Spearman also contributed significantly, securing her 11th win by striking out six batters, while Faith Aragon effectively closed out a challenging fifth inning. The Aggies maintained control of the game, scoring two more runs in the sixth before Kennesaw State managed a late consolation run.

Head Coach Kathy Rodolph praised her team’s efforts, emphasizing their adaptability to the venue’s unique conditions and the importance of depth in the lineup. Junior catcher Kendal Lunar remarked on the team’s offensive strategy, noting their quick adjustments to the opposing pitchers.

The two teams will face off again on Saturday for the second game of the series, with first pitch set for 11:00 AM MT, amid expectations of further inclement weather. The Aggies aim to clinch a spot in the CUSA Championship while Kennesaw State looks to bounce back on their Senior Day.
