Aggies Shine at Desert Heat Classic in Tucson
TUCSON, Ariz. – The NM State track and field team showcased impressive performances at the Desert Heat Classic, hosted by the University of Arizona on Saturday. With several personal bests and standout finishes, the Aggies demonstrated their competitive spirit against top conference programs.
Jordan Torres delivered an outstanding performance in the 3000m steeplechase, securing a first-place finish with a time of 11:10.01. Murrie Dodge also made waves, claiming a personal best and finishing third in the same event with a time of 11:36.01, marking the best overall finish of her career.
Breanna Moss opened the meet for the Aggies in the 100m hurdles, notching a personal best of 14.03 seconds. Meanwhile, in the 400m, Jhana Downie finished fourth in her heat with a time of 54.62 seconds. Sierra Brewer led the Aggies in the 100m, clocking a wind-adjusted time of 11.70 seconds, followed closely by freshman Jaylah McDonnell, who set a personal best with a time of 11.79 seconds.
Nia Allison secured a fifth-place finish in the 3000m with a time of 9:59.49, marking her fourth top-five finish of the outdoor season. In the 400m hurdles, Breanna Moss topped the NM State entries with a time of 1:01.02.
In field events, Aileen Alvarado led the Aggies in high jump, achieving a height of 1.59 meters. Samonne Cauley also excelled, posting a personal best of 11.58 meters in shot put.
The Aggies will take a break before heading to the 2025 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, starting May 16 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
