Aztecs Fall to Lobos in Series Finale
SAN DIEGO – San Diego State fell 15-7 to New Mexico in a high-scoring finale of their Mountain West series on Sunday, played under difficult wet and windy conditions at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The game saw a combined 32 hits, with New Mexico hammering five home runs and scoring 14 runs in the final five innings, flipping a 5-1 deficit early on. This loss leaves SDSU with a record of 15-34 overall and 10-14 in conference play, tying them for fifth in the Mountain West standings with Air Force, San José State, and Washington State.
Conversely, UNM improved to 28-18, also tying them for the top spot in the conference alongside Nevada and Fresno State.
Daniel Arambula led SDSU offensively with a 3-for-4 day, including an RBI and a run. Other contributions came from Xavier Farnum, who added a two-run double in the fourth inning, and Jake Jackson and Evan Escobar, who both drove in runs.
New Mexico’s Will Asby stole the spotlight with a perfect 5-for-5 performance, including four RBIs. The Aztecs’ Garvey Rumary suffered the loss despite striking out seven batters.
