ABQ Ride Seeks Volunteers for Ambassador Program

ABQ Ride Launches Ambassador Program to Enhance Public Safety

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – ABQ Ride is innovating its approach to public safety by introducing a new Ambassador Program aimed at increasing community engagement and customer service. Bobby Sisneros, the deputy director of the transit department, emphasized the importance of having more individuals involved in the effort, stating, “The idea is just getting folks out into the system.” This initiative seeks volunteers willing to dedicate two hours a week to help enhance the transit experience.

Volunteers, known as ambassadors, will undergo training in de-escalation, situational awareness, and customer service, empowering them to assist riders directly. “Instead of just handing them a flyer, these ambassadors can have real conversations and assist in connecting with services,” Sisneros explained.

The new program adds to ABQ Ride’s existing safety measures, including the "See Something, Say Something" app, which has seen 400 downloads and one resulting suspension. The transit department plans to expand its security force and establish a dedicated safety division by the end of 2025. Sisneros concluded, “We have to be there, and we have to be ready to respond to mitigate bad behavior,” aiming to ensure a safe travel environment for all.
