A new Disney theme park is set to open in Abu Dhabi, following an agreement between The Walt Disney Company and immersive experience company Miral. This marks Disney’s seventh theme park resort, which will be developed by Miral with creative oversight from Disney’s imagineers. Although Disney will not provide capital investment, it will benefit from royalties. The project is separate from Disney’s $60 billion investment pledge for its theme parks over the next decade.
Disney CEO Bob Iger expressed excitement about the park’s potential to blend contemporary architecture with cutting-edge technology, creating deeply immersive experiences. He stated that design work has already begun, although an opening date is not yet specified. This development follows Disney’s growing presence in the UAE, which includes retail locations and touring productions like “The Lion King.”
The UAE’s strategic location—within a four-hour flight for a third of the global population—offers a tourism market of approximately 500 million visitors. Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney experiences, referred to the Abu Dhabi project as a groundbreaking development in theme parks, emphasizing its advanced and interactive nature. The park will be situated on a beautiful waterfront at Yas Island, enhancing Disney’s storytelling capabilities.
Yas Island already features several attractions, including Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, SeaWorld, and Warner Bros. World, alongside the Formula 1 Yas Marina Circuit and a major mall. The new Disney park will include themed accommodations, unique dining, and retail experiences that resonate with both Disney’s storytelling tradition and Abu Dhabi’s modern cultural essence, aiming to welcome more families to the Disney experience than ever before.
