Crackdown on Multi-State Drug Trafficking Operation Linked to Sinaloa Cartel
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A comprehensive investigation by federal, state, and local authorities has dismantled a major drug trafficking ring allegedly led by Heriberto Salazar Amaya, based out of Salem, Oregon. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the operation, which spanned multiple states including New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah.
The investigation resulted in the arrest of 16 individuals and the seizure of significant quantities of illegal substances, including over 2.7 million fentanyl pills, 11.5 kilograms of concentrated fentanyl powder, methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine. Authorities also confiscated 41 firearms, including ghost guns, $600,000 in cash, and numerous luxury vehicles.
Salazar Amaya, identified as a Mexican national who entered the U.S. illegally, is accused of lacing various drugs, including Xanax and Adderall, with fentanyl, heightening their danger. Bondi emphasized that the goal of this bust is to protect American citizens from drug-related harm.
The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed that instead of deportation, suspects will remain in custody to serve lengthy prison sentences, signaling a firm stance against drug trafficking and gang-related activities.
