Closing Out the 2025 Season

Aggies Exit CUSA Championship as Season Comes to an End

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – NM State Softball concluded its 2025 season in disappointing fashion, suffering back-to-back defeats on the first day of the CUSA Championship. The Aggies first faced LA Tech, leading 4-1 in the seventh inning before a dramatic comeback by the Bulldogs resulted in a walk-off 5-4 victory for LA Tech. Just thirty minutes later, NM State met Sam Houston, but fell short again, losing 5-3.

In the opening match, pitcher Desirae Spearman, who was recently named First Team All-CUSA, initially silenced the Bulldogs’ bats, holding them scoreless through three innings. The Aggies managed to gain a 1-0 lead in the fourth with a key hit from Kendal Lunar, eventually increasing their lead to 4-1 thanks to a two-run homer from Riley Carley. However, LA Tech rallied dramatically in the bottom of the seventh, hitting a pair of home runs to snatch victory, leaving NM State stunned.

In the second game against Sam Houston, Faith Aragon took the mound, but the Aggies struggled offensively, managing only two hits through six innings. Despite a three-run surge in the final frame, highlighted by Spearman’s impressive 20th home run of the season, NM State couldn’t complete the comeback, thus ending their campaign.

The Aggies wrapped up the season with an overall record of 18-7 at home, but struggled on the road with a 9-20 record. Head Coach Kathy Rodolph expressed pride in her team’s resilience and camaraderie throughout a challenging season. As seniors like Riley Carley and Kayla Lunar concluded their collegiate careers, the focus shifts to building for a brighter future.
