Video Shows Car Similar to Bryan Kohberger’s Near Time of Idaho Student Murders

In the early hours of November 13, 2022, four University of Idaho students were murdered in their off-campus home. A neighbor’s security video captured a white car circling their block multiple times before speeding away. This vehicle, a white Hyundai Elantra, became critical evidence in the investigation, as authorities sought the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect. Prosecutors later linked Bryan Kohberger to the crime through various pieces of evidence, including DNA, cellphone data, and his own vehicle—a 2015 Elantra.

Cellphone records revealed that Kohberger’s phone connected to a tower near the victims’ residence 23 times in the months leading up to the murders, including one visit just six days prior. He was arrested in late December 2022 while visiting family in Pennsylvania. Kohberger pleaded not guilty to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary, with his defense maintaining his innocence and suggesting the possibility of an alternate suspect.

Kohberger, a criminology graduate student at Washington State University, had notable interactions with people in Moscow, including a peculiar text to a former classmate following a pool party shortly after moving to the area. Prosecutors assert that DNA found on a knife sheath at the scene matched Kohberger’s, and they believe he purchased a Ka-Bar knife similar to the one linked to the crime months prior.

The defense pointed to the presence of unidentified male DNA at the scene, hinting at other suspects. As the trial approaches, there are ongoing debates regarding admissible evidence, including cellphone records and eyewitness accounts. Kohberger faces a potential death penalty if convicted, while his defense has sought to challenge evidence and witness testimony that could unfairly prejudice the case against him.
