As the high school softball season heads into its final stretch, the spotlight is firmly on the pitchers dominating the circle in New Mexico. The state has proven to be a breeding ground for exceptional prep softball talent, with several players making headlines for their impressive statistics.
Leading the pack is Valencia, boasting a flawless 22-0 record and an impressive ERA of 0.66, clocking 204 strikeouts in just 95 1/3 innings for the 24-2 Bears. Following closely, Montoya is also undefeated at 17-0, recording a 1.03 ERA and 182 strikeouts over 81 2/3 innings, showcasing her prowess for the 23-3 Bears.
Sanchez has recorded 195 strikeouts this season for the 11-13 Cardinals, despite her 2.89 ERA and 10-11 record, offering hope for her team’s performance. Perez excels with a 17-0 record and a commendable ERA of 1.85, helping the top-ranked Hawks maintain their perfect 25-0 season.
Other standout pitchers include Moncada (17-2, 2.68 ERA) for the 21-5 Cougars, Gallegos (18-4, 134 strikeouts) for the Pintos, and Cedillo, who has a stellar record of 14-0 for the Horsemen.
