The public learned of the investigation in November 2023 when the FBI seized Adams’ devices post-event in Manhattan. He was later charged with accepting illicit campaign donations solicited by a Turkish diplomat. However, on February 10, after Donald Trump’s administration took office, the Justice Department instructed prosecutors to abandon the case, citing it as an impediment to the mayor’s cooperation with immigration policy enforcement.
