NM State Suffers Defeat to Western Kentucky in Lopsided Affair
Las Cruces, N.M. – The New Mexico State baseball team faced a tough challenge on Friday, unable to withstand a powerful Western Kentucky offense, ultimately losing 19-3. The Hilltoppers showcased their batting prowess with 18 hits, including four home runs.
NM State began on a hopeful note, tying the game 1-1 in the first inning as Mitch Namie tripled and scored on an RBI groundout by Steve Solorzano. However, the tide turned in the third inning when WKU loaded the bases and capitalized, scoring seven runs thanks to significant hits, including a three-run homer by Kyle Hvidsten. Pitcher Connor Wylde struggled, issuing five walks within the first three innings.
Despite a solo home run from Camden Kaufman in the fifth and a strong performance from Brandon Forrester, who secured three hits, the Aggies couldn’t close the gap. WKU dominated in the seventh with a staggering 10 runs, capped off by two three-run homers.
Notably, the loss marked NM State’s worst home defeat since March 2022. The Aggies will look to regroup ahead of their next matchup against Western Kentucky on May 11 at 11 a.m. MT. For ongoing updates on NM State Baseball, visit NMStateSports.com.
