Sierra Brewer Sets School Record on Opening Day of Competition

NM State Shines on Day One of CUSA Outdoor Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Under blustery skies at the 2025 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the New Mexico State University (NM State) track and field team showcased impressive talent with several standout performances.

Sierra Brewer made history by clocking a school record of 11.40 seconds in the 100m, marking not only a personal best but also a highlight for the Aggies’ efforts on the opening day. Brewer’s achievement was instrumental as she became the sole NM State runner to advance to the finals in this event.

The Aggies had notable entries across various distances, with Rachel O’Brien and Nia Allison qualifying for the finals in the 1500m. O’Brien led the pack, finishing with the fastest preliminary time of 4:31.53, marking a significant milestone for both runners.

In the 100m hurdles, Breanna Moss secured her spot in the finals with a time of 14.10 seconds, while freshman Sahara Tasker followed suit in the 400m with an impressive 54.76 seconds finish, earning her a place in Sunday’s final.

Kayla O’Connell added to NM State’s points by finishing eighth in the 10,000m with a season-best time of 37:17.68, while Khloi Bird also made her championship debut.

In field events, Cameron Hodges led the long jump with a mark of 5.76m, just missing the finals, and Alesha Lane highlighted the hammer throw competitors with a throw of 47.10m.

As Day One wrapped up, NM State stood in ninth place overall with just one point. Action continues on Saturday at the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Complex, with live streaming available via ESPN+.
