Trump Calls for Investigation into Kamala Harris’ Campaign Practices
WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump has urged an investigation into former Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris for allegedly paying celebrity entertainers to support her campaign. In a post on Truth Social, Trump asserted that Harris’ transactions for performances by major artists like Beyoncé and Bruce Springsteen could violate campaign finance laws, suggesting this amounts to buying endorsements.
"I am going to call for a major investigation into this matter,” Trump declared. He claimed such actions could be construed as an attempt to enhance her campaign’s image and draw larger crowds, describing them as “a very expensive and desperate effort.” He criticized the entertainers involved, labeling their support as “unpatriotic” and a corrupt exploitation of the political system.
In addition to the aforementioned artists, Harris’ campaign has received backing from other prominent figures, including Oprah Winfrey and Taylor Swift. Conversely, Trump himself has garnered endorsements from various celebrities, such as Elon Musk and Kid Rock.
However, experts note that the legality of paid endorsements is murky. A spokesperson from the Federal Election Commission (FEC) clarified in 2022 that federal candidates can legally pay for endorsements, as long as they accurately report the expenses with a clear purpose for the disbursement. If all disclosures are made correctly, candidates are not at risk of facing legal consequences for such actions.
