Aggies Secure Win Against UNC Greensboro, Look Ahead to Liberty
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The New Mexico State baseball team notched a hard-fought 6-4 victory against UNC Greensboro on Wednesday afternoon at UNCG Baseball Stadium, improving their season record to 11-10 while handing the Spartans a tie at 10-10.
The Aggies seized control of the game in the middle innings. After getting on the board in the second inning via a throwing error that allowed Aidan Lombardi to score, NM State added two runs in the fourth with efforts from Sheehan O’Connor and Tommy Meluskey. The team then erupted for three runs in the fifth, thanks to crucial contributions from Lombardi, O’Connor, and Bryce Campbell, who delivered a key RBI single.
On the mound, starter Ferny Barreda pitched two solid innings, allowing a single run before Connor Wylde took over in relief. Wylde dazzled on the mound with a career-high seven strikeouts over five innings, earning the win as the Aggies fended off a late-game comeback attempt from UNC Greensboro, including back-to-back solo home runs from JJ Parsons and Jacob Dilley.
Aidan Lombardi led the offensive charge with a 3-for-3 performance, while Bryce Campbell continued his strong showing with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. With this win, NM State also marked their first victory against UNC Greensboro, improving to 1-0 in the all-time series.
