Aggies Set to Face Kennesaw State in CUSA Championships Opener

Huntsville, Ala. – The NM State Aggies (17-14, 10-8 CUSA) gear up to face Kennesaw State (18-13, 10-8 CUSA) in the opening round of the Conference USA (CUSA) Championships on Thursday, March 13, at 4:30 p.m. MT in Huntsville, Alabama.

After a challenging finish to the regular season marked by a 76-69 loss to Sam Houston, the Aggies are looking to bounce back in the tournament. This will be the third encounter between the two teams this season. Kennesaw State secured an early victory in Las Cruces, but the Aggies retaliated with a strong defensive performance in Georgia, winning 60-49.

Under new head coach Hooten, NM State achieved notable milestones, including a 12-3 home record and impressive victories over rivals. The Aggies ranked second in CUSA for defensive scoring, allowing only 65.5 points per game and leading in field goal percentage defense at .394, positioning them 12th nationally.

Graduate forward Peter Filipovity has emerged as a key player for NM State, recording eight double-doubles this season, while teammate Christian Cook leads the team as the top scorer with 13.0 points per game. Cook’s consistency has earned him All-CUSA Third Team honors, alongside Filipovity.

On the opposing side, Kennesaw State enters the matchup with the highest offensive output in CUSA, averaging 76.4 points per game. Their backcourt duo, Adrian Wooley and Simeon Cottle, poses a significant threat, scoring 18.5 and 17.7 points per game, respectively.
