Fallen Bloomfield Officer Honored in Final Homecoming Procession

Procession Honors Fallen Bloomfield Officer Ontiveros

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A solemn procession for Bloomfield Police Officer Timothy Ontiveros took place Tuesday, illustrating the deep respect New Mexicans have for their public safety officials. Officer Ontiveros, who tragically died on Sunday after being shot during a traffic stop on May 26, was escorted from the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque to his final resting place in San Juan County.

The procession began around 10 a.m., traveling along I-25 and Highway 550. As officers from various departments lined the route, community members expressed their sorrow and support. “It’s just sad. We always support police officers and firefighters because they do a lot for the community,” said San Juan County resident Jeannie Poncho.

New Mexicans showed their appreciation by waving American flags, demonstrating solidarity for the fallen officer. Audrey Gordon, another local, remarked on his commitment to the region, stating, “He served all of those towns.”

Upon arrival in Bloomfield, Officer Ontiveros received a hero’s welcome, with hundreds gathering along the route. “You could tell people loved Tim by the looks of the crowd,” reflected his relative, Felipa Valencia. “We love him, and we’re going to miss him.”
