[News] Samsung Collaborates with Automotive Chipmaker on Next-Generation In-Vehicle Semiconductor Technology

Samsung Electronics Partners with Industry Leaders to Advance Automotive Semiconductor Technology

Samsung Electronics has joined forces with Infineon and NXP in a groundbreaking collaboration to develop next-generation automotive semiconductor technology solutions. This initiative aims to address the surging demand for high-performance computing chips in smart vehicles, driven by the rapid evolution of autonomous driving technology.

As the automotive sector increasingly requires enhanced computing power, Samsung is leveraging its expertise in memory and processor technologies. The company plans to integrate advanced process technologies, originally designed for mobile devices, into automotive manufacturing. This partnership focuses on several critical areas, including the development of automotive-grade processors based on 5nm process technology, optimizing the co-design of memory and processors, and ensuring chip stability under extreme temperature conditions. Furthermore, the collaboration will enhance real-time processing capabilities and security features, with an emphasis on supporting advanced neural processing units (NPUs) to efficiently execute complex autonomous driving algorithms.

In addition to processors, Samsung is working on more integrated system-on-chip (SoC) solutions that combine multiple functions into a single chip, effectively saving space and reducing power consumption. Analysts suggest that this strategic collaboration positions Samsung to capture a larger share of the growing automotive electronics market.

With the rise of electric vehicles and smart connected cars, the in-vehicle chip market is expected to expand at a remarkable compound annual growth rate of over 15% over the next five years. By partnering with automotive semiconductor experts, Samsung aims to provide comprehensive electronic solutions to vehicle manufacturers, solidifying its footprint in this rapidly evolving market.
