Aggies Come Up Short in Friday Night Showdown at LA Tech

Aggies Narrowly Fall to LA Tech in Series Opener

RUSTON, La. – The NM State baseball team faced a tough battle on Friday night, succumbing to LA Tech 12-7 in their series opener at J.C. Love Field. Despite suffering their eighth consecutive defeat, the Aggies (22-30, 10-14 CUSA) secured a place in the upcoming 2025 CUSA Baseball Championship, thanks to a loss by Middle Tennessee.

The game started poorly for NM State, as they were held hitless and struck out six times in the opening two innings. Conversely, LA Tech (30-22, 13-11 CUSA) capitalized on a chaotic second inning, scoring six runs without a hit, aided by walks, hit-by-pitches, and a wild pitch. They built an 8-0 lead after adding a solo home run and an unearned run in subsequent innings.

However, the Aggies showcased resilience in the fifth inning, scoring seven runs to mount an impressive comeback. Dane Woodcook’s RBI double sparked the revival, followed by Steve Solorzano’s two-run contribution and a powerful three-run homer from Bryce Campbell, narrowing the deficit to just one run at 8-7.

The momentum did not last long, as NM State’s bullpen contained LA Tech for the fifth, but the Bulldogs responded sharply with four additional runs across the sixth and seventh innings, cementing their victory with an insurance run in the eighth.

Campbell led NM State’s offense with a 2-for-4 performance, including a home run and three RBIs. Solorzano and Joey Craig also made notable contributions, with Craig notching two hits.

Looking ahead, NM State will face LA Tech again on May 16, 2025, at 5 p.m. MT, as they continue their pursuit of success in the league.
