NM State Men’s Tennis Faces Defeat Against New Mexico
Las Cruces, NM – March 20, 2025
In a highly anticipated in-state matchup, NM State’s men’s tennis team suffered a disappointing 6-1 defeat against New Mexico on Sunday at the NM State Tennis Center. Despite their best efforts, the Aggies were unable to overcome the Lobos’ dominant performance in both doubles and singles.
The match kicked off with doubles play, where NM State struggled to find success. The top pair, Itay Feigin and Roko Stipetic, fell with a score of 6-1, while Gustavo Campos and Tobias Wallin provided a competitive showing but ultimately lost 6-4 at the number two spot. A third doubles match, featuring Matias Rojas and Holland Snell, went unfinished with the duo trailing 5-2.
Transitioning to singles, NM State showcased resilience amidst tough competition. Tobias Wallin managed to secure the Aggies’ only victory, edging past Aditya Balsekar in a thrilling three-set match, concluding with scores of 7-6, 4-6, and 10-6. However, Roko Stipetic’s valiant effort at No. 5 singles ended in heartbreak as he lost 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Matias Rojas put up a fight at No. 4 singles but ultimately fell short, losing 7-5, 6-0.
Looking ahead, NM State will have an opportunity to bounce back when they host Pratt Community College on March 20. This match serves as a crucial final preparation before heading to Lynchburg, Virginia, for the C-USA Tournament scheduled for April 18-20.
