Press Release: Dena Garfield to Present Therapeutic Benefits of the Human/Horse Connection
Sherman, NY – On May 28, Dena Garfield will lead a presentation on the transformative potential of the Human/Horse Connection at Centaur Stride, located at 8488 Jones Road. This event, part of a sponsorship grant from the M&T Charitable Foundation, aims to highlight how horses can be instrumental in promoting healthier lifestyles and addressing issues such as chronic stress, substance addiction, and other health concerns.
In an age where quick-fix solutions dominate discussions about health, Garfield emphasizes the need for lifestyle changes supported by impactful catalysts within our environments. Recent studies indicate that emotional and physical well-being can be significantly bolstered through therapeutic horseback riding, which activates multiple biological systems simultaneously, leading to quicker improvements in physical and mental health.
Participants will also have the opportunity to attend a related clinic titled "Posture Partners," planned for the following week. This small-group session, limited to 12 attendees, will focus on enhancing self-care techniques, particularly for caregivers, led by Physical Therapist Claudia Monroe. Techniques will include the McKenzie Method, proper lifting habits, and therapeutic riding exercises designed to alleviate and prevent back pain.
"It’s remarkable how engaging with horses can improve posture and overall health," said Monroe. "The horse’s movement stimulates core muscle engagement and aids in proper body alignment."
Safety is paramount at Centaur Stride, and all participants will undergo assessments to ensure they can safely engage in activities. With the addition of an Equicizer, a mechanical horse for practice, the organization is committed to creating a nurturing environment for all riders.
Community support is vital, and Centaur Stride encourages donations during CHQ 716 Give Big on June 12 to continue their mission. To learn more and register, visit the Centaur Stride Facebook page or call 716-326-4318.
