SATURDAY UPDATE: Trout Fire Evacuations Expand to Upper Mimbres

Press Release: Trout Fire Evacuations and Emergency Response Update

Grant County, NM – As the Trout Fire continues to spread, covering over 5,000 acres since its outbreak, evacuation orders have been issued in specific zones. Areas designated under “go” status include segments along N.M. 15 and zone 6 to the south. Evacuation preparations are strongly advised for residents in zone 7, currently under "set" status.

Hot and dry conditions on Saturday exacerbated the fire, prompting defensive measures from firefighting crews. The Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) has enacted public safety power shutoffs from the Wilderness Ranger Station to Gila Cliff Dwellings to ensure firefighter safety, affecting approximately 420 customers. Backup generators are available for residents at local fire department stations.

An evacuation center has been established at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business Center in Silver City, and arrangements for pets and livestock are in place. Roads including N.M. 15 and N.M. 35 are closed to facilitate fire response efforts.

More than 550 firefighters, aided by seven helicopters, are actively combating the fire, which remains uncontained. The public is urged to stay updated via official county communications, as rumors complicate emergency operations.

For ongoing updates, please monitor the Grant County official website and social media outlets.
